Retinaldehyde (Retinal)
Retinal is Medik8’s revolutionary form of vitamin A, found in our cult-favourite Crystal Retinal serum. It is one conversion step closer than retinol to the active form of vitamin A (retinoic acid), that all forms of vitamin A must convert to before becoming effective on the skin. As a result, retinal is 11x faster acting on the skin than retinol[1], without any added irritation potential.

Frequently Asked Questions
Retinaldehyde (or retinal) is a vitamin A derivative that's gentler yet highly effective for anti-aging and acne-prone skin.
Retinaldehyde helps reduce wrinkles, fade hyperpigmentation, improve skin texture, and treat acne. It boosts collagen production and promotes cell turnover for a smoother, more youthful complexion.
Retinaldehyde is often considered more potent than retinol because it converts more quickly to retinoic acid in the skin. It can deliver similar results with less irritation.
Start with a lower concentration (0.01% - 0.05%) and gradually increase as tolerated. Higher percentages (0.1% - 0.3%) are more potent but may cause more irritation.
Yes, retinaldehyde products are available over the counter in various strengths and formulations.
Some may experience mild redness, dryness, or peeling initially. Using it gradually and moisturizing well can help minimize these effects.
